Are there any insurance or bond requirements for electrical contractors?

   Not sure what exactly you are referring to. If i was looking to hire an electrical contractor, I would make sure he/she had general liability insurance and workman’s compensation insurance. That way, if they wire something wrong and burn your house down, their insurance will pay to rebuild your house.

   I can’t figure out what kind of warranty or service plan an electrical contractor would try to sell. I typically see contractors offering a limited 1 year warranty for work, but nothing more than that. I sure as heck wouldn’t buy a service plan from an electrical contractor. What are they servicing??

   I am going to try to answer this question for you, although I am not 100% sure what you are asking.

   I assume you are going to sell a Warranty/Service plan and want any repairs etc. you make covered under insurance. General Liability, as long as you have it in place, covers for “damage” caused by faulty work, however, it will NOT pay for repairs to “your work” meaning the wiring you did. Insurance companies who write General Liability are very leery of contractors who offer warranties longer than one year in time, so be very careful of this. There is no insurance policy available that will cover repairs to “your work”, this is something that would ome out of your pocket unfortunately.

   Beyond General Liability, as an electrical contractor you should carry Worker’s Compensation, Equpment/Tool coverage, Auto and an Umbrella policy.
