We use gas in our house and it is much more expensive than many people I know who use electric. In the winter our bills for gas were close to 500 a month (we do have an old house that is big).

It depends on market prices and they change all the time. I’m building a house too. We’ve opted for electric with solar panels. Any excess electricity generated by the solar panels is sold to the electric company.

We just built a house this past winter and we’re heating with propane. I wish now that we’d gone with electric. Our gas bill (I live in southeastern Ohio) is running us around $125.00 per month—-Even in the summer. On top of that, we have an electric bill, too.

A-lot of factors here mate. You need to consider climate in your area, age of home, renovation’s, r- factors in existing insulatent’s, Size of room’s.
Overall my opinion, and this is blind, is electric combined w/ radiant heat. You would will need good thermostat to moderate climate and time sequence’s.

Well, propane is NOT the way to go for sure. Way too expensive.
We have both natural gas and electric and both have gotten outrageous. It seems to me that the natural gas is cheaper, but electricity is safer (IMO). The natural gas actually scares me. We had a grill hooked up to natural gas when we moved in and I have had it taken out (much to the chagrin of my hubby).
We still have natural gas heat and hot water. I prefer the gas heat because I think it is warmer than electric heat (and I love when you kick it on for the first time in the winter because it reminds me of the house I grew up in). But, it leaves a dirty film on your stuff over time that you won’t have with electric heat. I know a lot of houses now have radiant electric heat, but every house I’ve been in that has that was cold to me.

Natural gas usually has the lowest monthly bill, but electric has lower start-up cost (electric heaters are much less expensive than a gas furnace), and electricity is really not much more expensive than gas anymore. With electric heat you also have the option of heating just the rooms that you are using, and there is no possibility of a gas leak!

I’ve found that after owning four different homes, in four different states, no matter where I was the electric heat was by far the most expensive. The same for hot water heaters, the electric hot water heater was cheaper than the gas or oil units, but in the long run the electric cost almost double to run.
The electric is cleaner, on a home to home basic, but some states still burn coal to produce the electricity and it negates the clean benefits at the home level. The cleanest, most environmentally friendly thing to do would be to use solar panels.

In today’s market, the cost of natural gas and electricity on a unit energy basis are nearly equal. That is because the value of natural gas is near historic high levels. Two factors impact the cost of natural gas….location, and economic cycle. Some parts of the country or the world don’t have close sources of natural gas, and so the law of supply and demand will drive the price up. In addition, colder climates will tend to favor natural gas, because more of your energy bill is spent on heating rather than cooling. And if you have a relatively new heating unit, the efficiency will be prett good.
The other factor is the US economy. Natural gas is used to produce both plastics and electricity. When the economy is doing well, the average homeowner is competing for the same natural gas as the plastic producers and the utility companies.
I currently live in an all electric home, but my previous one was both gas and electric. I don’t see appreciable differences in expenses again because of the high cost of natural gas.
What is probably more imortant is how well insulated the home is. I live on the Gulf coast where we run our electric powered AC unit almost all year round. The biggest impact I mad on my utility bill was the installation of a second layer of fiberglass insulation in the attic. This effort, reduced my cieling temperature by 5 degrees, and with the use of a programmable thermostat, it gives me a very reasonable utility bill.

Z-mesh looks to be the best of the best. Here in Michigan, gas is high in the winter(2X), electric rates go lowest in winter. This product looks like most home handy people can do it. Add a programable thermostat so low power use when your not there, your $100 will be saved the first month.

natural gas is now and has always been cheaper.propane is not comparable to natural gas as far as price goes.propane is 50% higher than natural gas.electric is closer to 60% more expenseve.natural gas is also the most reliable form of energy,just ask anyone who has been in a ice storm.

Gas. Illinois just ended a 10 year rate freeze on electric and bills wound up 300% higher. The power company said it would only be an increase of 50%. Now the state govt is getting involved but relief is a long long ways off. People with all electric homes are at mercy of the power company.
