brighton electrics

Electricians usually figure larger jobs like yours on a per/ opening price. In other words, where ever there is an an opening in the plaster / drywall ie; light, switch, recepticle, smoke detector, they have a set price to rough in that opening. This price will change depending on the area you're from due to variations in code. The most expensive would be in large metropolitan area's where the code requires wiring to be run in metal conduit piping. It can be less if wiring like "romex" is allowed.. In the Chicago area, piping is required and electricians charge about $85.00/ opening as long as all the wall's stud spaces and ceiling joists are accessable.

A licensed electrician will charge up to $60 per hour. It is worth it because what he can do in one day will take you a week to do yourself.

brighton electrician

It totally depends on where you live. The cost of wire is outrageous also right now, so that is going to bump the cost quite a bit. I'm in CA and my husband is an electrical contractor. For a house your size it would be an easy 9-10 grand including basic materials (no fancy light fixtures, etc.), but again it really depends on where you live. I don't know anyone who would do a job like that by the hour, nor would I want to pay anyone by the hour for a job that size - it would be a bid job. Be sure and get at least 3 DETAILED estimates and VERIFY LICENSING AND INSURANCE before signing any contracts. Don't just hire the lowest bidder - check references and go with your gut. If a guy gives you the lowest price but you don't get a good feeling about him, move on to the next one - it's your home, you should feel comfortable with anyone working in it.
