wiring codes are local, but I don’t know where you reside. I am only familiar with my areas codes.
Though there are general standards, municipalities have the jurisdiction to enforce wiring codes.
What you do in your own house is up to you, but the municipality in which your house resides will be responsible for inspecting and fining you for improper or shoddy work.
