Bit locker — how hard is it to defeat?
I installed the bit locker program on to my laptop. I am a small business man, an electrical contractor. I did this to protect client information case the laptop gets stolen. The bit locker program dose not slow down my computer in any noticeable way, I think its a good program. But how hard would it be for someone to bypass or defeat the bit locker program?

Pathetically easy if you know how. Don’t rely on this software.

Wikipedia has some information available
I would figure the common criminals who steal laptops simply try to pass them on to someone else, who might simply try to re-install the operating system so they can sell it as a “used” system,.
Others might think there was something valuable and try to sell it to another criminal who might have the resources to break the encryption. But that risk is comparable to a stolen briefcase of paper documents. Your trade secrets, account information, contacts, etc. would be in the hands of someone else in either scenario.
What you really need is reliable backups (onsite and offsite) and a plan for recovering from the possible loss of the laptop so you can continue to do business.
