Is there a instrument that can be used to locate an energized wire buried in a wall? I don’t think the electrical box is present.

any hard ware store will have one. they range from 5.00 to 100.00 dollars.

Yes you can use a wire tracer.

yeah that’s great that ideal offers this item, it starts out at $500 and goes up to $1000, call a contractor with that tester for $75-$100 to come out to trace it out for you.
or you could just go and buy a 5gal bucket of spackle, some tape, a knife, and a keyhole saw for under $40.
