Megabeth: If you have megamuscles you can use a whisk or a hand beater, a little easier.

your in for a work out...
a whisk has been used for centuries before the electric mixer.
You should be able to find an electric for under $20.00.
you will have to beat the cream by hand for close to 10 minuets.

PS compliements to Rob B
I have compleatly forgot about the hand mixer.
Where to find one today
Bye I'm off to search the web "I can't live without one".

No You can use what's called a balloon whisk . 2.5 C of whipping cream will yield 5C of whipped cream . As others have mentioned your arms will get tired .Go to baking911.com for instructions on how to use a ballon whisk properly or you could just go to a thrift shop and spend three bucks and buy a used electric mixer

I would say that unless you can spin the manual beater fast , its not going to work. Or it may just take longer. It may work.

Hi!
Yes you can use a wire whisk, but your arm may feel like it's gonna fall off because you have to whisk it really fast. Have fun!

If you have manually powered mixer (egg beater) you get soft peaks with relative ease but you can also use a wire whisk.
