Electric or Acoustic – Which type of guitar should I start out on?

acoustic, so that no one thinks ur disturbin the peace or whtvr… but electric is easier to play cuz the stings are closer to the neck… id ge tacoustic first.

acoustic is better to start out on, and easier. and its more affordable and you don’t need as much equipment.

i dont play guitar but i heard from some of my friends who play guitar that electric is easier to play. and its also alot more fun

well i started with an acoustic palmer and wouldn’t do it any other way because if you get electric you have to also buy an amp and its just easy er to start acoustic so good luck have fun and dint get discouraged

Hmm that is a good question. I started on an acoustic guitar just to learn the basics. Then I learned how to play the bass.

It’s always best to start out on the acoustic guitar, simply because you can get your basic knowledge easier on an acoustic, and it’s got the simple sound to start out with. I’ve seen probably only one person in my life that could play the electric guitar really well and didn’t start out on an acoustic. It’s possible, but in all honesty, (I’m starting out on the guitar myself) acoustic is the way to go.
You learn chords on the acoustic to play basic songs, then later on you can do riffs and such on an electric.

People who play electric can play acoustic,
but not so much vice versa.
Its harder to to go from acoustic to electric then it is to go from electric to acoustic,
but acoustic is definitely most cost efficient and requires less equipment, makes less noise etc.
Which sound to you most prefer?

electric is easier for people with small hands (like me) But acoustic is cheaper and more versatile (you can play it basically anywhere, and it is easier to find a good accoustic teacher )

If you’re just about to start, then you should probably get an acoustic because they are cheaper and don’t require an amplifier or anything like that.

When I first started out, it was on an acoustic. Sure, people will say acoustic because it’s softer and you won’t annoy others… but, who cares? We all have to start somewhere so I personally wouldn’t worry about noise levels or anything like that.
What I found handy through learning on an acoustic was that it really taught me to play properly… to get my chords and notes nice and crisp. Plus, it toughens up your fingers quicker… because when you start out you can expect to get sore fingertips. I just found when starting with acoustic it gave a more honest sound then electric… On electrics you can hide mistakes easier (through distortion etc). Acoustic teaches you to focus more I think.
But it really comes down to a judgement call. Play around with a couple and go for the one that best suits you- the one that feels right. After all, you can seek all the advice in the world but we are not the ones playing the guitar- you are. But through experience, acoustic guitar is the better starting point. I’d start off with acoustic. It’s a bit harder to play, but once you perfect acoustic the playing on an electric guitar will be so easy. Second, more cheaper. Less equipment to buy, don’t have to worry about amps or anything. But basically, its just what kinda music you wanna play or what you like better. Its all up to you. Hope all goes well. Rock on.

I think that starting out on electric is easier to learn the basics on because the action is lower (the strings are closer to the neck). However, once you get past absolute beginner, you could switch to acoustic for a while. It’s harder to play, but playing it will make you a better guitarist. Also, when you switch back to electric it’s SO nice. I’ve been playing for a few years and every time I feel like I’m losing motivation, I play my acoustic for a while, and then a few days later, go back to electric and it feels great. So to answer your question, I think starting on electric is better.

When I first started I got an electric because that’s what everyone uses, right?
Wrong.
I got an acoustic later when that electric broke and had to go back for repairs (which took a month).
I’ve been thinking “what was I thinking to buy an electric guitar” pretty much ever since.
Mind, that electric is quite a good one, with an excellent amplifier and cables, but for the money I’ve spent on that I could have gotten an acoustic guitar that blows your mind away.
When you can play an acoustic guitar well, an electric guitar is easy.
The reverse is definitely not the case as electric guitars are far more forgiving of mistakes, will hide your mistakes in distortion and effects so you never know you made them.

well i should say that there isn’t much of a difference between an electric or acoustic,only that the strings on an electric are much more closer to the frets,but honestly ya should just get an electric one,also ya could get those come in handy effect processors which are really cheap,that way ya could plug in headphones through the processor and play at any time of the day without waking ya neighbors,ya could also get cool effects and distortion sounds off the processor,ya could also hook up ya guitar to ya desktop and record with down loadable home studio recording softwares/programs…its way easier to bend/pitch/slide/scale on an electric as the strings are lil more thinner than of those on an acoustic..its got tremolo gauges and volume controls..so ya see mate theres a whole lot ya could do with an electric than on an acoustic…but then again ya could get a semi-acoustic guitar which has a built in pick-up which is rather cool too,but anyway just get a nice cheap strat guitar to start off…learn some scales and chord variations and stuff like that,ya should be making progress in a couple of months of regular playing/practice …hope i’ve helped mate…

electric is easier to learn on cause the necks are generally thinner than acoustics but you need an amp, a ten watt amp is a good idea for a beginner but acoustics are cheaper
