a laser-beam spirit level. You get very cheapish ones, so i suggest getting him a more expensive one. Easy to find in DIY shops, etc.
You also get divices which use ultrasound to measure distances between walls. He might have one already though.
Toolbelt made from leather, but with his name stamped into the leather. Or better than his name, just a picture of something that he likes. More meaningful than a name.
