Will I have low qualifications being an Electrician’s Mate in the Navy?
I joined the navy as an EM. And the other day, someone was giving me hell, for chosing an EM job. The reason I chose that job is because as of now I have a green card( permanent resident), and I would say that 90% of the naval jobs are open only to U.S. citizens, including OCS- I will have a bachelor’s degree soon after A school. So I figured at least until I receive my cityizenship ( in 3 years) I could have a job that I can bring to the civilian world. But the person said, that was the stupidest idea I could have, that as an EM when I get out I will only be as good as this kid I know that dropped out of high school, and now lays power lines. Another thing he said was, I will never amount to be an officer, because all naval officers come out of Annapolis, and the only way me as an enlisted to have any opportunity to OCS is by going to war, even by having the BBA.
Is a naval electrician really that poorly qualified?
Will I never be able to go to OCS?
The idiot broke my MORALE!!

Some one don’t like you??? Don’t worry a lot of people don’t like me… I am uncaring and rude — that is what they said… I do not see a problem — 30 years in the Navy as an enlisted man is not such a bad deal… When you get the Bachelors all you can do is ask if OCS is available. And when can I go…
Navy is not one of the things newly graduated students out of University run too… The Navy operates on the principle that it is a business — and they offer jobs — promotions — pay raises — education — job training.. Just get in line and get what ever you can grab… I like the money… Be cool and don’t loose your rating—ok (Capt Mast)
