Various ways about starting a career in anything. To get the best qualifications and starting out on the best pay, is going to university and studying electrical engineering, doing it that way will open the field into a whole range of opportunities, like working for computer companies etc etc. A friend of mine got an apprenticeship with a local electrical firm, and they are training him, the upside he is learning and earning at the same time, downside is pay isn’t too good to begin with, about £6 an hour. Though that would soon increase once your qualified and established electrician, though that could take many years, but since electricians are in demand right now, their getting better wages than ever.
Id say the best bet is getting in touch with local firms, or stick in at school and go to uni!

I usually takes a while to become a good electrician. You can start by taking classes from a college, it can either be a university or a tech college, or you can start as an apprentice but it doesn’t pay well and you have to be an apprentice for quite a while (a couple years). You can then take a test to become a journeyman electrician, or basically a rookie. You have to work under a master electrician. You have to take a few tests to become a master electrician. Also, depending on where you will work, you have to take tests to maintain your license. If you travel, especially out of state to work, you have to have licenses for all of the places you work. Also, to maintain you accreditation you have to take continuing education classes and you usually have to travel quite a ways. However, if you enjoy the work, it can be a rewarding job.

Another option is going to your Local Union Hall, they’ll send you to sign up for an apprenticeship. Basic Algebra is important. No, it’s not hard to become an electrician. The pay is very good after a few years in the apprenticeship. My better half is an Inside Journeyman Wireman. Good luck..
