Maikah asked:

I am looking for a contractor to renovate and update my old house. I have already received 4 job bids ranging from $9,000 to $15,000 from both licensed and non-licensed contractors. The project does not affect the structural or changing the floor plan of the house, but the work does include replacing exiting kitchen cabinets and appliances, replacing existing tiled shower stalls, replacing vinyl floors with ceramic tiled floors in kitchen and baths areas, replacing plumbing and electrical fixtures that includes light electrical and plumbing work such as adding a light switch and adding a dishwasher. A friend has told me that non-licensed contractors can only bid on jobs costing less than $1,000 where as licensed contractors are bonded and able to legally bid on jobs costing more than $1,000. Does anyone know the facts between a licensed and non-licensed contractor besides the fact that one has and one does not have a license? Thank you.

Amy S asked:

And please don’t answer with.. “Call them and price them” that is not what I’m asking. I’m looking for a general answer before I call them so I am prepared to get a reasonable price. My dishwasher, instead of having a plug in, it has 2 thin wires. My electric box is right underneath the floor where the dishwasher will go. It wouldn’t take but maybe 25 minutes or so to do this, I just don’t want to mess with electricity, I’m pregnant and it’s not worth the risk. Thanks!

We are gutting the house down to bare studs & taking out all of the old “everything” They’ll have to run new wire through the intire (3200 sq feet 2 floors & a basement) house. Put in a new fuse box, put in all new fixtures & outlets & light switches as well.

I need to buy an electric fireplace but not really sure about how trully safe they are, as in do some models catch on fire (etc.) Maybe someone out there has had some experience with a particular unit and can tell me.
